What Is Software Deprecation? A Short Guide.
Within software development, software deprecation and depreciation is a normal function of the process. That is true for software development companies across the board, including Invo. At Invo, we are committed to developing and releasing the best software in the industry, as reflected in our latest software update. We want to get these upgrades into the hands of our customers and in front of your customers. Part of that process includes deprecating and depreciating older versions of our software.
Here is a quick deprecation guide from Invo.
Invo Definitions
Deprecated Version: When a version within Invo’s software has been superseded by enough newer versions that it is no longer considered up to date.
At Invo, our clients aren’t all on the same version. Deprecated versions still exist and function, but are no longer supported nor maintained and are considered obsolete. When a major update is released, a supporting version becomes deprecated. Every time that happens, Invo will communicate with any clients currently on the newly deprecated version and provide a window to upgrade to a non-deprecated version.
NOTE: Invo strongly recommends upgrading to the newest version when upgrading from a deprecated version
Depreciated Version: A version within Invo’s software has been superseded by a newer version but is still considered up to date.
At any time, we have clients on different versions. We always recommend immediately upgrading to the newest version to improve your platform, but some older versions are still considered up-to-date and not obsolete, meaning that we still support and maintain them.
What Happens If I Am On A Deprecated Version?
Invo no longer supports deprecated versions. This means that we no longer fix bugs, create upgrades, or maintain that specific version. It still exists, but in a static manner that will not change.
For clients currently on a deprecated version, we strongly recommend upgrading the newest version. Our newest versions not only include the newest features, but also the fastest connection times and highest quality video.
What Happens If I Am On A Depreciated Version?
Invo continues to support all depreciated versions that are still accepted. However, certain features are exclusive to the newest version. We strongly recommend that any financial institution not on the newest version upgrade to the newest software, even if still on a supported version.
Every time a major version update is released, it moves to the top of our supported versions, moving every other version down a rung, leaving one version deprecated. It also moves another version to the bottom rung, meaning it is next up to be deprecated when another major release happens. For clients on that current version, no action is required. However, Invo will communicate with those clients to let them know their version is next up to be deprecated.
Why Does This Matters To My Financial Institution?
At Invo, we strive to provide our customers with the best solutions and technologies. We want your customers to have access to the very best, industry-leading tools and for your staff to benefit from these features as well.
We know how stressful it can be to upgrade versions. Over 1/3 of users feel that software updates are either unnecessary or pose technical risks, so we understand why financial institutions would be hesitant to upgrade. Financial institutions don’t want anything to break as a result of an upgrade, and they certainly don’t want anything to break if the upgrade isn’t necessary.
Most users just want their platform to stay the same. At Invo, we make this commitment to you, our valued customer.
Upgrading Your Software Is Valuable
We work hard to create software that works best for financial institutions and their customers. Every upgrade or update we release is created to improve employee and customer experience. Our updates don’t just provide new features, they improve the products you are currently using with higher video quality and quicker connection times.
Our Team Will Walk Alongside Your Team
When you upgrade to the latest software, we aren’t going to leave you on the hook to prepare your staff. Our updating process is robust and Invo’s support team will be there every step of the way, ensuring that it is ready to go live.
